The sale of my Lotus Eleven has allowed the purchase of a Mk1 Escort BDG 'RS1600' replica rally car. The car was built originally for Peter Eggerton by XS Racing. It was constructed as an RS2000 'Pinto' car in approx. 2007 but appears to have only been used sparingly until 2011 (when it was significantly upgraded to full BDG / ZF spec). Peter drove the car to 8th place in the BHRC rounds of Ulster & the Tour of Flanders in Belgium during 2011, after which it was stored away until now.  2016 will see it back out in my hands on the hillclimb scene. This is a significant purchase as this is the car (Escort Mk1 & Mk2) that I started my competition driving with many years ago - I never imagined being able to get my hands on a 'proper' one !  Some minor work & a few tweeks are all that is required before the new season starts.

The Escort Mk1 is possibly the ultimate car for the Bugatti Owners Club championship Saloon car class. The championship allows vehicles produced up to 1975 but of a identical specification to a pre 1972 vehicle (only for Saloons & Sports cars). Thus the mk1 in period rally 'BDG' form is about as trick as its possible to be within the rules !.

This car was first registered in November 1974 so just falls within the category limits.  It has proper MSA Historic Rallying papers to show it complies with the very strict regulations determining the extent of the modifications - only 'period' items are allowed.
